It
is located at the southern end of the Arana
valley, next to the Oteo passage that connects
it with the valley of Campezo.
In its early days it was a village dependent
on Contrasta, obtaining a town charter from
Alfonso XI between 1312 and 1319; this charter
was confirmed by the king himself in 1331.
An independent
town and place of passage between the lands of the
Ebro and the sea, San Vicente was one of the most
important towns of the Montaña Alavesa during
the 16th century, which was its greatest period
and the origin of its present-day urban layout.
This layout is organised around the Church of San
Vicente, from the same period.
